Got around to adding some videos to
the ShowTime
section. It's sort of a hack
so it's not that pretty but it
works.
Slide bad, Swing good

This weekend I had a blast with the
kids. Spent nearly the entire time
with them. We played and giggled
and had a blast. Took Beaker to the
local park and he did very well. We
went down the slide and he freaked
out. But he seemed to really enjoy
the swing. We sat on the swing
enjoying the breeze for quite a
while. Next week Mahana gets a trim
so I'll be able to take her
outside. She doesn't get nearly as
much attention because she can fly.
That will change.
Sister's Birdies
Thought I'd toss in a few pics of
the two parrots my sister has.
First is an Indian Ringneck (Indie)
and the second is a new addition to
her family; Goffin Cockatoo
(Jasmine). Perty!
Let the critter catching commence

I walked home last night after
visiting the local pub and it was
raining a little bit. Look what I
ran into. What's strange is that he
was just walking around on the
sidewalk. Seems rather far away
from his natural habitat (see
below).
Four-toed Salamander (Hemidactylium scutatum)
Description : 2-4" (5.1-10.2 cm). A small species distinguished by hind feet with 4 toes and marked constriction at base of tail. Reddish-brown above, grayish sides; white belly, with black spots. Costal grooves, 13-14.
Breeding : Late winter to spring. 2-3 dozen eggs, singly attached to sphagnum moss or other plants close to water; female guards eggs until hatching 6-8 weeks later. The 1/2" (13 mm) aquatic larvae transform in 1 1/2 months at 7/8" (22 mm). Mature in 2 1/2 years.
Habitat : Bogs, boggy streams, and floodplains; usually associated with sphagnum moss.
Range : Discontinuous. Chiefly east of Mississippi River; Nova Scotia to Wisconsin south to Gulf, but absent from Florida peninsula.
Adults live under stones and leaf litter in hardwood forests surrounding boggy areas; the need for this special habitat accounts for its spotty distribution. when a predator grabs the Four-toed's tail, it readily breaks off - a twitching morsel that distracts the enemy. A new tail is soon regenerated.

New Pictures
I spent most of the weekend just
playing with the new camera but not
really taking any serious pictures.
Just getting familiar with all of
the functions and options. But I
did post a few new snapshots
HERE.
The original resolution was 3072x1728 (widescreen 16:9) and 3072x2304 (4:3) and the file size is gigantic. So the pictures here are scaled and don't really convey the detail of what it can do.

After nearly 8 years I have finally
replaced my first and only digital
camera from 1999. It's an awesome
little thing even though it's
1.3mp. All pictures on this site
and my projects were taken using
that. But it's time to retire it.
I just received my Canon PowerShot SD 750 Digital Elph and hooh-boy is it sweet. Expect some new pictures soon. Unfortunately my 4GB SD Card was shipped separately and hasn't come in yet so with the completely useless 32MB card included I can take a whopping 12 pictures in the highest resolution.

Finally got around to fixing the
Peep Show section (30 second image
refresh). It had been broken since
Apr.20 and I simply didn't have
time to mess with it. All good now.

All done administering the meds to
Mahana. She only drew blood from my
thumb once. I had never had her on
her back in my palm so it took a
few days to figure out how to do it
without her putting up a fight. But
once there she is great.
She's pretty much all back to normal now. Loud screeching is back and she's talking and eating like a pig (all normal). Even her little scab from the would is gone. She just has a bald spot on her chest. I'll wait a week or two before putting her through the trauma of getting all trimmed.
